CannabisWhy you should always take CBD & THC together

May 1, 2021by The CBD0

CBD and THC perfectly complement each other. THC seems to boost, or enhance the effects of CBD and CBD tones down the effects of THC. In fact, recent studies have found that cannabinoids work better together, this is known as the entourage effect.

The entourage effect refers to keeping all of the plant properties (cannabinoids, terpenes, flavinoids) together so you get better results from the plant. Some cannabis products on the market strip the plant of extra plant material, these are extracts and they’re often used in edibles and other concentrates. Some edibles keep all of the plant properties and will be marketed as “full spectrum” and others will just extract the THC or CBD called isolates. Isolates can be desirable for some people that may have a reaction to certain properties of the cannabis plant.

This video gives you an overview of the endocannabinoid system and whole plant therapy/the entourage effect

CBD reduces the side effects of THC

CBD actually gets in the way of THC binding to the CB1 receptor in the brain, which is why CBD is a great thing to use when you’ve consumed too much THC. CBD feels like it cleans up around the edges of THC. CBD is neuroprotective and has anti-inflammatory effect on the brain.
CBD is best taken at least as a 2:1 THC. Higher doses of CBD works better when used in conjunction with THC, a good starter dose of CBD is 20mg however if you’re taking 20mg of THC, I recommend taking at least 50mg of CBD.

What if you don’t want to feel high?

Low dose THC is best for anyone who doesn’t want to feel any kind of elevation. A low dose would be anything under 10% in the dried flower or under 5mg for an oral dose. Everyone is different, play around with the different strengths to see what works best for you. If you’re interested in CBD without THC you can buy hemp derived CBD which will only have trace amounts of THC. However if you buy full spectrum CBD, then you’re getting a small amount of THC, not enough to feel high, but enough that you’re getting all of the cannabinoids working for you.

Edibles with high amounts of CBD

There’s a few products on the market with a high ratio of CBD to THC. However it’s not necessary to find an edible with CBD, you can simply buy a CBD oil separately and take a dose every time you use THC.

Wana 5:1 Pomegranate Blueberry Acai Chew

This edible contains 5mg of THC and 25mg of CBD, it’s the highest ratio of CBD to THC (as of writing this article) on the market. It also tastes great, Wana makes a variety of chews and they’re all pretty tasty.

Wana 2:1 Japanese Citrus Yuzu

Another Wana chew, this one has 5mg of THC and 10mg of CBD per chew. This is also a really tasty edible and it’s one of my favourites.

Dosecann 4:1 capsules

This is my favourite edible for a few reasons. The carrier oil is Ahiflower which converts to DHA once consumed, it’s what vegans take as an alternative to fish oil. This edible comes in a bottle of 30 capsules, each capsule contains 2.5 mg of THC and 10mg of CBD. Buying it in capsules is more economical and allows you to customize your dose better than buying a chew, plus it’s free from sweeteners.

The science is clear, CBD is a good thing to take with THC

Before the science came out to prove that CBD reduces the side effects of THC, I knew this on my own by taking a dose of CBD before I would vaporize THC, or take an edible. I noticed it felt cleaner and reduced the side effects like the jitters. If you ever take too much THC and find yourself needing to come down, take a big dose of CBD and this will help bring down your high a bit.
